First 5 San Bernardino continuously strives to make a positive difference in the lives of children, prenatal to age five, throughout this county. This is primarily accomplished through partnerships with local service agencies to provide quality programs to young children and their families.

Our commitment to serving our youngest children stems from the research in brain development showing that the experiences of children in their earliest years significantly affect the way they grow and develop. Positive results in the early years impact dramatically on their physical, mental, emotional and social development. This, in turn, reduces the social and financial costs of services the children might need in later years.

First 5 San Bernardino has three Strategic Priority Areas (SPAs) to organize its investments: Child Health, Quality Early Learning and Family Support. These areas include distinct objectives and outcomes First 5 San Bernardino aims to achieve—these are the “what” of the work. The “how” of the work –direct services, systems level efforts and supportive strategies can be found across all three Strategic Priority Areas.
