First 5 San Bernardino, well-known for its 25-year history of investing in children prenatal through 5 years old, has implemented a new three-year $12 million funding opportunity facilitating investments to San Bernardino County-based organizations. Named the Family Supports Initiative, it was designed to improve parenting, family self-sufficiency and the long-term safety and healthy development of children prenatal to 5 years old.
After the procurement process, the following organizations were selected as recipients of the funding: Child Care Resource Center, Children’s Fund, Chino Valley Unified School District, Hearts and Lives, The Mom and Dad Project, Moses House Ministries and Walden Family Services. These organizations recently entered into a contract approved by the Commission for a 36-month term.
According to First 5 San Bernardino Executive Director Karen Scott, every family with a young child may benefit from community and social support to help adjust to developmental stages and promote their child’s healthy development. For those with the fewest assets, community innovation is critical to help families access support and resources to help their child thrive.
“Our Commission is committed to creating a sustainable, unified system that assists families with the services and support they need while maximizing available funding to serve more families,” Scott explained. “The purpose of this funding is to strengthen family’s support networks so there is efficient access and navigation of services for families to ultimately improve outcomes for young children,” Scott concluded.
Congratulations to these new funding recipients!
